A Test and Laughter
A Test and Laughter
Imam Bukhari Rahimahullah said,
Khalid bin Makhlad told us, He said, Sulaiman informed us, He said, Abdullah bin Dinar informed us. From Ibn 'Umar, from the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam. he said,
“Indeed, among the trees there is a tree that does not drop its leaves, and in fact it becomes a parable for a Muslim. Tell me, what tree is that?”
He (Ibn 'Umar) said, "So, people also think about the trees in the valley." Abdullah (Ibn 'Umar) said, "In my heart it occurred to me that the tree he was referring to was a date palm. However, I am embarrassed to say it.”
Then they (the companions) said, "Tell us, O Messenger of Allah, what tree is that?"
He shallallahu 'alaihi wasallam replied,
هِيَ النَّخْلَة
"That is a date palm." (see Sahih Al-Bukhari with Fath Al-Bari tahqiq Syaibatul Hamdi, Juz 1 p. 178)
Brief Description:
Among the benefits and lessons that can be drawn from the hadith above:
First: Suggestions for an 'alim or teacher to ask questions or questions to his students in order to test their understanding and motivate them to reflect and think about the material presented.
Second: Respect and glorify older people (seniors) and not talk much on their side.
Third: Suggestion to feel ashamed as long as it does not cause a loss of benefit
Fourth: It is permissible to make guesses or riddles accompanied by an explanation or giving an 'answer key' to it.
Fifth: It is permissible to give parables in order to increase the understanding of the audience.
Sixth: It could be that a senior pious scholar has missed some of the knowledge that turns out to be obtained by people with less knowledge, because knowledge is a gift and a gift from Allah that is given to whomever He wills.
Seventh: This hadith shows the virtues or privileges of date palms. Al-Bazzar narrated a hadith with an authentic sanad from Sufyan bin Husain from Abu Bisyr, from Mujahid from Ibn 'Umar, that the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam said, "The parable of a Muslim is like a palm tree. Whatever comes to you from that tree will surely benefit you." (see 'Umdah Al-Qari by Imam Al-'Aini, Juz 2 p. 22)
Allah Ta'ala even says,
أَلَمْ تَرَ كَيْفَ ضَرَبَ ٱللَّهُ مَثَلignal
"Don't you see how Allah gives the parable of a good sentence like a good tree, the main thing is firmly planted while the branches are towering in the sky." (QS. Abraham: 24)
Sheikh As-Sa'di Rahimahullah interpreted,
"What is meant by 'good tree' is a date palm." (see Taisir Al-Karim Ar-Rahman, p. 425)
"In this verse, Allah gives the parable of the sentence laa ilaha illallah and its branches, like a date palm. The stem and tree are firmly planted in the earth, while the branches rise to the sky and always produce many benefits. Thus, the parable of the tree of faith in the heart of a believer in the form of knowledge and belief. Its branches are in the form of good sayings/remembrance and good deeds, good morals, and beautiful manners." (see Taisir Al-Karim Ar-Rahman, p. 425)
Those are a few useful notes, hopefully this will be useful for all readers
